CALIFORNIA -- A pit bull broke into a neighbor’s backyard in the 400 block of Foothill Boulevard on May 1 at about 4:45 p.m., and attacked the residents’ pug, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.
Residents sprayed the pit bull with water before beating the dog with a lawn aerator and finally stabbed it in order to save the pug, authorities said.
The pit bull died, Napa County Sgt. Craig Nickles said.
The pug’s owner, whose name was not released, suffered scratches on his arm, Nickles said.
Napa County Animal Control took custody of the pit bull, Nickles said.
The pug was taken to a veterinarian, where it received numerous stitches around the neck area, Nickles said. It was released the next day, he said.
Napa police, who responded to the incident, said no crime was committed.
“From our point of view, the case is not going to proceed any further,” Napa Police Sgt. Pat Manzer said.
