Lowville woman charged with reckless endangerment over dog attacks

NEW YORK -- A village woman has been charged with second-degree reckless endangerment for allegedly allowing two dogs to run loose last week, when they bit three men.

Village police charged Amanda S. Hotchkiss, 32, of 7523 S. State St., on Thursday after being accused of allowing two dogs, a shepherd mix and a pit bull mix, to run loose throughout the village May 29. She is to appear in Village Court

She previously was charged with violating two village ordinances prohibiting dogs from running loose and menacing people over a May 9 incident in which two women allegedly were bitten.

The shepherd mix was owned by Ms. Hotchkiss’s brother, Nathan, but was under her care while he was incarcerated and in rehabilitation.

The two dogs on Thursday night were deemed dangerous dogs by Village Judge Patricia H. Yarina and ordered to be euthanized.
