Dogs fatally maul sheep in Montgomery County

TEXAS -- Animal control had to be called to northeast Montgomery County after a pit bull attacked a flock of sheep owned by a Houston firefighter and his daughter. The attack happened near Cut and Shoot.

"Our other dogs were barking and we come out this morning at about 6:00 and I found the two pits -- a red nosed and black pit -- in this small pasture area and they were attacking the sheep," said sheep owner Robert Currie. "I chased the dogs out and chased them to the neighbor's house."

He says the dogs killed a mother sheep and 14 lambs, and they damaged a llama.

"It's sad to see them dying when they would be my show animals," daughter Abby Currie said.

According to Robert Currie, this is not the first incident. He said the same dogs killed about a dozen sheep back in March and even tried to attack him.

"We've lost about 30 so far," he said. "The second time they killed a ram that I had on loan from a guy in west Texas that was $20,000."

Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable Tim Holifield tells me the owner of the pit bulls will be liable for the loss and damage to their neighbor's property.

He said, "This is a lesson that people have to keep predatory animals restrained at all times."

Constable Holifield added that the dogs were not restrained on their owner's property but left to roam freely.

[Get a  judge to issue an order for the owner of the dogs to submit them for DNA samples. Compare to samples taken from your injured/dead sheep. Case solved!]
