Palm Bay woman bitten on face by pit bull mix recovering

FLORIDA -- A 39-year-old Palm Bay woman continues to recover after a friend’s dog bit her face.

The dog, a Pit bull - Mastiff mix named Donovan, was taken to a shelter and placed under a 10-day quarantine, officials report.

Police said Jolandra Pollard was with her boyfriend late Wednesday at a friend’s home on Seabull Avenue when the attack happened.

“It was an unprovoked attack. (The victim) did nothing to provoke the bite,” said Capt. Bob Brown, a spokesman for Brevard County Animal Services.

Pollard told officers she was sitting on the couch when the dog approached.

“She was rubbing him and without warning it quickly bit her. She said it was the first time she had been at the home,” Brown said.

Police said the woman’s lip was split at the nose and she was also bitten on one of her hands. The dog was contained in the house until a Brevard County Animal Service officer arrived.

The homeowner was given citations for an attack causing an injury and failure to vaccinate, Brown added. The dog could be returned to the woman once the quarantine is complete.
