Nurse accused in the disappearance of family's beloved Golden Retriever

MICHIGAN -- What happened to Susie? The Soliman family's seven-year-old Golden Retriever disappeared after being taken in by a nurse who was sent to care for Frank Soliman while the rest of his family was out of the country.

The nurse, Jennifer Stombaugh, 30, has been charged with misdemeanor Larceny and her jury trial is set for Monday, July 9.

Jennifer Stombaugh

In early January, Stombaugh, a nurse with Henry Ford Home Health Care, was sent to the Soliman's Farmington Hills home to care for Mr. Soliman, 75, while his wife and son were out of the country for a few weeks.

During that time, Mr. Soliman says Stombaugh insisted that he be hospitalized for care of a wound.

Soliman says he begged Stombaugh to place his beloved Susie with someone to care for her until he was released from the hospital.

Farmington Hills Police say Stombaugh claims that she took the dog to the Westland Humane Society, pushed her inside the doors and left to avoid paying anything.

Police and Humane Society workers say there is no evidence that the Golden Retriever was ever there.
Investigators say they don't know what happened to the dog.

A spokesman for Henry Ford Health System released this statement:
"While our priority was taking care of the patient, our nurse made every effort to place the dog so it wouldn't be left unattended at home while the patient was hospitalized and the patient's family was out of the country. Before she took the dog to the Westland Humane Society on Jan. 20, 2012, she made calls to local agencies to place the dog but was unsuccessful. We are sorry about the disappearance of the dog and offered to make restitution with the family."

The Solimans say a Henry Ford executive offered them $500 for their lost Susie. They refused the money and say they just want their beloved pet returned.
