Teenager bit in face by pit bull

VERMONT -- A search is on for the owner of a pit bull mix involved in a dog bite incident.

Law enforcement officials are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the owner of a large brown dog that recently bit a Wallingford teenager on the face.

The incident took place on Railroad Street in the village and the youth needed medical attention, according to Wallingford Town Administrator Julie Sharon.

“He had a facial bite that required stitches. He’s doing fine,” Sharon said.

A couple of residents captured the dog and contained it in a crate until the Rutland County Sheriff Department transported the animal to a kennel in a neighboring town, Sharon said.

“It is a pitbull, Rottweiler mix. I don’t think the dog is a true stray, he doesn’t look like a stray, he’s not covered in burdocks and stuff like that,” Sheriff Benard said. “He’s been well taken care of.”

The sheriff said the animal could have wandered away from its owner or may have been abandoned.

“I don’t know if somebody brought him there and dropped him off or whether somebody knows who he belongs to and doesn’t want to fess up to it,” he said.
