According to Shelby police, Peter Bower violated the terms of his probation by posting on a Web site that he was available to dog-sit.
Bower had posted an online advertisement at www.sittercity.com offering dog sitting services under “At a Glance” section stating:
“I love animals, especially dogs and horses. I recently lost my two German Shepherds of six years, and miss their presence and daily routine greatly…”
According to Bower's probation officer, Bower is not allowed to be around animals, 10TV News reported.
Because Ohio has no bestiality laws, prosecutors charged him with animal cruelty. However, they were unable to prove that the dogs had been "injured" by Bower raping them so they offered to let him plead "no contest" in November to animal cruelty with the promise of no jail time.
Bower was sentenced to 80 days of community service, two-years of probation, ordered to attend sexual addiction classes, and prohibited from owning an animal during the 2-year probation period.
Apparently, Bower was a volunteer at the local shelter which is where he obtained the dog he began raping, according to police.
Update:
Peter Bower was sentenced to 180 days (6 months) in the county jail for violating the terms of his probation. However, with the way jail/prison works, he'll only have to serve 1/3 which would be 2 months and then if he spent any days in jail after being arrested for the VOP, he'll get credit for those. So really, he might only be looking at 3-4 in jail.
And a sympathetic judge might allow him to serve those days on the weekends so as not to interfere with his job, personal life.
