UTAH -- A pit bull is sitting on death row.
The dog was picked up by Salt Lake City police Monday night after he was allegedly ordered to attack a police officer.
"At this point in time we are going to seek an order of destruction to euthanize this animal," says April Harris of Salt Lake County Animal Servies.
Monday, the dog who goes by the name of Gotti and his [owner] Aaron Thomas were involved in [an assulat] on a police officer. The officer was bitten by the pit bull.
"He (Thomas) told the dog to get the officer," says Sgt. Shawn Josephson. "The pit bull dog turned around and bit the officer on the arm."
Both Thomas and Gotti took off but were found last night.
It isn't the first time Gotti and Thomas were involved in an attack.
Last month, Gotti bit Michael Burdette during a scuffle with Thomas. Burdette claims the dog was ordered to do so.
"Sic me, he commanded," Burdette tells ABC 4 News. "He told it to sic me, the dog to sic me."
Thomas' grandmother who didn't want to be identified says Thomas is the troublemaker, not Gotti.
"He (Thomas) needs help because it's not the dog's fault," says Vicki who didn't want her last name revealed. "We play with the dog. He is not vicious. My goal is to save his life."
Harris says Gotti is currently under a ten-day quarantine. She says animal services will then file paper work with the court to have the dog put to sleep.
