Effingham child victim of pit bull attack

GEORGIA -- A five-year-old Effingham child was severely injured late Tuesday morning after being attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull dog.

Wesley Frye was playing with another child inside his neighbor’s home on Hampton Court in Paddleford Subdivision when the pit bull attacked.

Frye suffered injuries to his face in addition to other parts of his body, Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman David Ehsanipoor said.

The child was life-flighted to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment.

As of Tuesday afternoon the child was in surgery, Ehsanipoor said.

Ehsanipoor said the dog’s owner was inside the home at the time of the attack and was eventually able to remove the dog to the outside. She was not bitten nor was the other child.

“She said the children were playing inside the living room prior to the attack,” Ehsanipoor said.

Ehsanipoor said it wasn’t known what caused the dog to attack the child.

“The dog’s owners are fully cooperating with deputies,” Ehsanipoor said.

The dog was taken by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office and will be quarantined for 10 days, Ehsanipoor said.

Ehsanipoor said the case is also still under investigation.
