FLORIDA -- The family of a 30 year-old Venice woman mauled by her American Bulldog Monday night tells us that she is in stable condition at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
Her injuries were severe enough that she was airlifted to Blake after the attack happened. That's where she's recovering as the dog that attacked her sits in quarantine at Sarasota County Animal Services, with its future in question.
Around 10:00 that night, Sarah Ziebro's mother placed a frantic 911 call:
Operator: “Tell me what you're seeing.”
Caller: "I don't know. I just came in and the house is covered in blood and her face is all ripped off...and the dog attacked her."
That animal, an American Bulldog, was taken by animal services shortly after the attack and will be quarantined for ten days.
Authorities say Ziebro had just suffered a seizure and fallen to the floor at her home, when the dog attacked.
911 Caller: "Please send the ambulance right away, oh my God her face is cut open."
The victim's mother, Joyce Ziebro, can be heard on the call yelling at the dog to get back in its cage.
"Sam, Sam, get back in your house. Sam, Sam, get back in your house."
While the dog is currently impounded, officials say they will work with the family to determine whether or not the family wants to keep the dog, or turn it over to the county. “If they do decide to relinquish the animal involved in the attack, it will be euthanized. Because it was involved in an attack, we can't in good faith adopt it out to another family," says Wendy Rose, Sarasota County Sheriff's spokesperson.
A second dog was also removed from the home, although authorities say it had nothing to do with the attack. “The second animal that was in the house was just taken into our custody for safe keeping while they're dealing with this situation," says Rose.
Officials say neither animal has any history of problems or violence.
According to reports, the victim's mother told police that she did not think her daughter would want the dog back, but that she was not sure.
