Chicago police shoot dog in self-defense

ILLINOIS -- Chicago police officers shot and killed a dog that attacked them as they tried to issue a search warrant.

It happened at a home on the 6900 block of South Loomis Boulevard around 10 p.m.

Police were serving a man with a narcotics-related search warrant, when he ran into his backyard and called for his pit bull to attack them.

Officers fatally shot the dog, but the owner ran off and was not arrested.

The officers were not hurt.
