Parents’ fears over dog attacks in Walton Hall Park

UNITED KINGDOM -- A couple whose six-year- old son was attacked by a dog say they fear a child will be killed if the animal is not caught.

Sarah Williams, 25, was walking with son Jack and 16-month-old daughter Summer-Rose in Walton Hall Park on July 31 when the brown and white bull mastiff came “from nowhere” to attack the youngster.

Her description of the dog and its owner match that released by Merseyside Police after an eight-year- old boy was taken to hospital following an attack on Tuesday.

Sarah, of Evesham Road, Walton, says she is still having nightmares after the incident. She said: “When I close my eyes, I can just see Jack’s face and how scared he was.”

Jack was taken to Alder Hey Hospital after the attack which left him with part of his finger hanging off as well as cuts and bruises.

Sarah said: “We were lucky there was a man there with a first aid kit who bandaged his finger. If he hadn’t done that, then Jack would have lost a lot of blood. I didn’t really get a chance to thank him but we are really grateful.”

Dad Paul, 29, was told by police that it was the second dog attack in the park that week.

And he called for anyone who might know him to come forward.

He said: “People might think the attack this week was just a one-off but it doesn’t seem to be, and something needs to be done before a child is killed.”

A police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police takes incidents of dog bites seriously and an investigation has been carried out to establish the dog's breed and locate the animal and its owner.

"We appeal to anyone who may have any information in connection with the incident to call us."
