NEW YORK -- A woman faces criminal charges after she told troopers that a stray dog had bitten her 6-year-old son when, in fact, he was attacked by a neighbor’s dog, state police said today.
Troopers responded to a Locust Avenue home around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday after Tammie L. Tyron, 32, reported that a stray pit bull had bitten her son in the face. The child was not seriously injured, police said.
Troopers then scoured the neighborhood for the stray dog, fearing it would bite another person, but were unable to locate it.
They then determined that Tyron had lied to troopers because she did not want the dog to get in trouble, nor did she want to cause any friction with the neighbor, police said.
Troopers charged Tyron with making a false punishable written statement and third-degree falsely reporting an incident, misdemeanors. She was released on an appearance ticket.
