Graphic Flyer Stirs Debate in St Paul

MINNESOTA -- A graphic flyer promoting a meeting in Saint Paul caused a debate on how to better handle dogs that cause trouble.

The flyer was sent to 4,000 people in the Como Park neighborhood by a man whose daughter was attacked by a pit bull.

The flyer shows pictures of severe bite marks and promotes a District Ten Community Council meeting on dog attacks Thursday Night.

[The video features a woman complaining that when she read the flyer it made it seem as though 'feral dogs' were roaming the park. I guess she didn't bother to notice that the pit bull featured in the flyer is clearly a pet, on a harness and leash.]

[In the video, board member Betsy Wehrwein dismisses the flyer saying she thought it sensationalized 'something that is emotional to start with'.]

The earlier article says that the father found out later
that this pit bull had attacked someone else before and
city leaders decided NOT to make the owner muzzle
the pit bull when taking it out for walks.

We spoke to the man who sent the flyers, but he declined our request for an interview.

Neighborhood resident Peter Barry made a presentation to the committee about an attack by a pit bull on his daughter, resulting in serious injuries.

Mr. Barry is seeking support for a proposed ban on certain types of dogs in St. Paul; however, he did not complete his presentation.

Representatives from the City of St. Paul’s Animal Control department were invited, but did not attend.
