Neighbors call 7 Action News for help after pit bull mix attacks

MICHIGAN -- Hiding under a house Tuesday morning, a new mother of eight puppies looked innocent.

However, if you were to ask just about any neighbor who lives along Asbury Park on the northwest side of Detroit, they will give you a different description of the pit bull / Bull mastiff mix.

They told 7 Action News the dog is terrorizing them.  A couple neighbors have the bite marks to prove it.

“It’s very scary,” said Tia Williams. “By staying next door I’m nervous to come outside.”

Williams is nine months pregnant. She just got out of the hospital a couple of days ago, and it was not for giving birth. Williams was injured when the pit bull / Bull mastiff mix attacked her.

“It jumped up and bit me on the side and then bit me on the back of my leg,” said Williams.

Those who live near the dogs told 7 Action News the owner was taken to jail for a parole violation a week ago. The dogs haven’t been looked after since then. The two adult dogs left behind are emaciated.

It is believed the mother was trying to protect her puppies and that is why she has been so aggressive. There are a lot of kids who play in the area.

Fearing one would get hurt, Freddie Parker called 7 Action News for help. “They haven’t eaten.  I know if I hadn’t eaten in over a week, I’d be vicious too,” said Parker.

Residents said they had [been calling] animal control for a week. After we showed up, animal control was out to get the dogs within minutes.

Neighbors were very grateful the pets were removed from the home.

“Thanks channel 7. You all were on the ball.  I like that action, taking action. I called and you all responded,” said Parker.

The dogs were taken to animal control where they will stay for 10 days and be quarantined. The owner will have 10 days to get them.

It’s unclear if they will be picked up because it’s not known when the owner will get out of jail.
