CONNECTICUT -- A 2-year-old pit bull mix that had to be Tasered four times while mauling a 60-year-old man early Monday evening in South Norwalk was to be euthanized Tuesday, police said.
The decision to put the dog down was made after Nicole Hoyt of 2 Hanford Place, Norwalk, told police she could not control the dog and turned ownership over to the city, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said.
Hoyt, 33, was charged with owning a dog to create a nuisance and allowing a dog to roam.
The dog was reported to police July 8, when it bit Hoyt and a male friend while in its home, Cotto said.
Also, early in May a man was charged with cruelty to animals when he stabbed the dog while it was attacking him, Cotto said.
[What?!]
At 6 p.m. Monday, police were called to 5 Hanford Place on the report of a dog biting a man. Arriving officers found the dog biting the left leg of a man who jumped over a wooden fence in hopes of escaping it, police said.
Two women tried using different items to get the dog off of the man to no avail, Cotto said. Police had to Taser it three times to get it to release the man. A fourth Taser was used when it got up and headed toward the man again, police said.
After she was Tasered, the dog stopped and then ran a few doors down, tearing the Taser barbs out of her skin, Cotto said. The dog was then secured in a room inside Hoyts' apartment.
The man was brought to Norwalk Hospital where he is being treated for his wounds.
The dog attacked the man while she was being walked with another dog.
