NEBRASKA -- A North Platte woman was taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center Tuesday, Aug. 14 after being attacked by two pit bulls at her home.
Tuesday afternoon North Platte Police and Animal Control Officers responded to a call that a dog was attacking its caretaker. The victim called the police because the dogs had attacked her and she feared that one of the dogs would continue to attack her.
When the officers arrived a male pit bull was in the front yard, and he quickly turned his aggression towards the officers.
One of the officers heard the victim screaming from inside the residence. A second dog, later identified as a female pit boxer, was inside.
In an effort to get inside to reach the victim, officers deployed a single taser to the aggressive male dog. Emergency workers then tended to the victim and transported her to Great Plains Regional Medical Center, where she was treated for multiple puncture wounds.
Officers monitored the male dog while Animal Control Officers worked to capture and seize the animal. The second female dog was then also sedated, restrained and transported to the animal shelter along with the male dog.
The owner of the dogs and family member of the victim was then notified of the incident. The male has been deemed dangerous and both remain quarantined.
