Wisconsin: Pit bull Tasered by officer, owner Alyssa Dietzman arrested

WISCONSIN -- A pit bull terrier charging at a Madison police officer was Tasered by the officer, with the dog's owner accused of letting the dog run loose.

It was the second time in a month the dog had attacked someone, with a man getting bitten by the same dog a month ago.

Alyssa Dietzman, 20, was tentatively charged with permitting a dog to run at large following the latest incident reported on Aug. 7 in the 500 block of North Street, according to a news release from the Madison Police Department.

"The dog had no collar and was standing outside the residence," said Officer Howard Payne.

The officer sent to the residence was the same officer called on July 4 when the pit bull bit the hand and groin area of a 30-year-old man.

"The victim on July 4 tried to pull the dog off him but he had no collar," Payne said.

The officer waited to approach the residence on Aug. 7 until the dog moved, and was able to walk to the front door after the dog went inside.

"The officer approached the doorway to try to secure the open door, which allowed the pit bull free range of not only the immediate property but the entire neighborhood," Payne said.

When the officer got to the door, the pit bull started barking and charged the officer.

"The officer was ready and used a Taser on the dog to avoid killing it," Payne said. "The dog ceased its aggressive behavior when the Taser was used."
