A few Union County residents contacted us, saying they think the killing of any animal is wrong, but this shooting of a pit bull mix, police say, was done to protect the public, under county ordinance.
A release from Morganfield Police Department says, Monday morning, a resident on north Mart Street called the Dog Warden, saying a dog was chasing her to work and she was afraid it would bite her.
Police say they arrived at the address with the warden, and the dog "snarled" and "lunged" at the officer.
The warden then commanded him to shoot the dog so it wouldn't quote "get someone else."
According to the county dog ordinance, pit bull mix is listed as a "vicious breed," which must be kept in a kennel or on a leash to keep it from harming people or other animals.
The county says any dog considered a viscous breed must be registered.
