Pit Bull Owner Gets Jail After 1 Dog Killed, Another Maimed

Neighbors Say Warnings About Aggressive Dog Were Ignored

COLORADO -- An Arvada dog owner has been sentenced to three days in jail and three years probation after her pit bull killed one dog and maimed another in separate attacks last year.

Michelle Sena-Kelley, 43, pleaded guilty on July 10 to ownership of a dangerous dog involving bodily injury, according to court records.

Along with jail and probation, Sena-Kelley was sentenced to 75 hours of community service and ordered to pay $9,521 in fines and costs, including $7,208 in restitution, court records said.

In August 2011, Janelle Jerman was walking her 2-year-old Yorkie mix, Uno, near 62nd Place and Yukon Court, when she said two pit bulls jumped out of a car window and attacked.

"They grabbed my dog and disemboweled him right in front of me," Jerman told 7NEWS after the attack.

"I just screamed for all I was worth. The neighbors came running and the owners of the dog did come and drag the dog off of mine."

Her dog died a short time later during surgery.

RIP Uno

Three weeks earlier, the same pit bull mauled Kimberly Greene's West Highland terrier, Chloe. Her dog had to have a leg amputated.

"It's just horrible that this happened to someone else," Greene told 7NEWS at the time..

"The (pit bull) dog came out of nowhere, like a hawk attacking a mouse, and just got her and didn't let go," said Greene.

After Uno was killed, police said they gave Sena-Kelley option: a court order to euthanize the pit bull or she could take responsibility herself. The owners put down the pit bull at a local animal hospital.

Neighbors said their repeated complaints to animal control about the aggressive dogs were ignored.

"That dog should have been hauled away the first time it attacked that first dog," said neighbor Lisa Briles.
