TENNESSEE -- An aggressive pit bull dog escaped the animal shelter after being caught by police and taken there Thursday night.
Someone at the Eastwood Inn on E. Spring Street called police that night about a dog that had been left in a room there, says a Cookeville Police Department shift summary.
The dog "had been left in the room and was eating it [the room]," the report says.
Officer Chris Ferguson and Sgt. Jeff Johnson went to the motel and Sgt. Johnson was able to catch the dog with a catch pole, and he then took it to the animal shelter.
"Once inside the fence at the shelter, the dog pulled away and slipped out of the catch pole," the report says.
"It immediately ran out the gate and somewhere behind the shelter."
Police eventually located the dog's owner, and the owner tried to find the dog, but did not succeed.
It is described as a "very aggressive" animal that is reddish brown. It weighs about 50 pounds and is named "Pumba," the report says.
