Dog attack sends baby to hospital

TEXAS -- A dog attack in Northeast Bexar County sent a baby to the hospital. It happened around 6:30 Saturday night on the 3700 block of Candlewind Lane near Foster Road.

According to the baby's grandmother she had just pulled up in her SUV with her kids and grandson in the car. The grandmother said as they were getting out of the vehicle a pit bull was running towards them and growling.

The woman said the dog caught up with the baby and his mom and knocked the baby out of the baby carrier.

Antonette Hastings said, “My grand baby fell out of the seat, fell in the street, the dog turned from my daughter and jumped on top of my grand baby”.

According to Hastings, the baby was bit in the face. He was rushed to University Hospital. And while the rest of the family is shaken up, none of them were injured.

The dog is now in the care of animal protective services. They’re calling it a pit bull mix.

The family is trying to work with officers to get more information, including who the dog belongs to and whether the dog has had its rabies shots.
