OREGON -- An 18-month-old Bonanza boy is recovering at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland after a dog bit off part of his face Wednesday.
Bonanza Fire Department Chief Bob Tyree said Danny Brown and his wife brought their son, Lear, to the Bonanza Clinic Wednesday afternoon. Tyree said a dog had attacked the boy, biting off a piece of his face just above the mouth.
An ambulance took Lear to Sky Lakes Medical Center before he was transferred to Doernbecher. Tyree said the boy’s mother is with him in Portland where Lear is healing while his father stayed home in Bonanza with the couple’s two daughters.
Klamath County Animal Control captured the dog, which Tyree believed to be a stray.
Tyree said it has been an emotional few days for the Brown family, but said the boy’s parents were not to blame for the accident.
The community of Bonanza is already working to help the family. The Bonanza School raised about $1,000, Tyree said.
Danny Brown is a firefighter with the Bureau of Land Management. To support their fellow firefighter, the Bonanza Fire Department is hosting a steak tri-tip dinner on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the main station, 2849 Market St.
The dinner will start at noon and continue through 6 p.m. Tyree hopes to capture the lunch crowd, the dinner crowd and any hunters out for the first day of the season. Donations will be accepted.
Anyone wishing to offer assistance to the family, or wanting to make a donation can contact the Bonanza Fire Department at 541-545-6400.
