Oklahoma: James Richardson, 33, and Chelsea Richardson, 22, arrested after 3 year-old girl mauled by family pit bull

OKLAHOMA -- The parents of a 3-year-old girl mauled by the family’s dog were arrested Friday afternoon in Muskogee County District Court.

James Richardson, 33, and Chelsea Richardson, 22, were arrested while appearing at a court hearing, said Muskogee Police Lt. Bobby Lee.

“They were in court because their children had been placed in Department of Human Services custody,” Lee said.

Jacee Richardson, who was savagely attacked by the family’s pit bull Thursday afternoon at 807 Osage St., remained in St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, he said.

“It’s my understanding that she’s doing OK,” Lee said. “She has a lot of injuries. A lot. She’s stable, but she’s going to have a long recovery, for sure.”

Jacee and her younger brother are now under DHS custody, Lee said. A condition report on the girl from the hospital was unavailable Friday.

Chelsea Richardson, who has outstanding warrants in Wagoner County, was arrested on complaints of child endangerment. James Richardson was arrested on outstanding warrants in Wagoner County.

Lee said the pit bull was taken by animal control and was tested for rabies.

The dog had been with the family for less than a month, although it was an adult, he said. Lee wasn’t sure how the family came to be in possession of the dog, he said.

“I do know we’ve finished our investigation and turned it over to the District Attorney’s Office,” he said.

Chelsea Richardson, 22, will appear in Muskogee County District Court to make an initial appearance on a child endangerment complaint.

Richardson’s 3-year-old daughter, Jacee, was attacked by the family’s pit bull Thursday and flown to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Muskogee Police Department Lt. Bobby Lee said Jacee had serious injuries, but had been stabilized by the hospital staff.
