Police use taser to stop a dog attack in the northwest

CANADA -- Calgary police had to use their taser on a dog involved in an attack in the northwest Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to Hawkwood and found two dogs, a Pit bull and a German Shepherd, attacking another dog.

Staff Sergeant John McCarthy tells 660News the owner of the injured animal stepped in.

He says, "the owner of the other dog, the victim dog - who was also at large - came out and was using a stick to try and get the Pit bull away from his dog. He also sustained a small bite and he's taken care of that and has also taken his dog to the vet to get treated."

Officers had to tackle the Pit bull after using the taser to get it under control.

The Pit bull and German Shepherd have been seized by Calgary Animal Services.
