What?! Vancouver man won't blame dog that bit off finger

WASHINGTON -- A Vancouver man doesn’t blame the dog that bit off one of his fingers.

Gerry Matthieu (pronounced Jerry Matthew) was walking in Greyhawk Community Park on Sept. 8 when he greeted three women walking a black Labrador.

The dog lunged at him and the next thing he knew he was in the grass with his detached right pinky finger in the palm of his hand. Doctors at a Vancouver hospital removed what was left of the finger.

The 78-year-old told The Columbian he doesn’t bear a grudge.

He says he’s not mad at the owners or the dog.

He says, “These things happen.”

Clark County Animal Control is investigating whether to declare the dog a dangerous animal and recommend that it be euthanized.
