Woman dies after pit bull attack

ARKANSAS -- Jefferson County Deputies were called to a home on NCTR Road where they say they found a woman dead after an apparent pit bull attack.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the woman's husband called 911 after he returned home and found her dead in the kitchen.

The man, Brian Roberts, said he was not able to enter the residence at first because his two pit bulls tried to attack him. Deputies also said they were not able to enter the residence because of the dogs and called animal control.

One of the dogs was eventually shot and killed because the animal control officers were not able to secure the animal, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

The victim has been identified as Debra Wilson-Roberts. She was suffering extremely severe bites wounds to both her legs and deputies say it is possible the dogs severed one of her arteries and she bled to death. Her body has been sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for an autopsy to determine “cause and manner of death.”

The dogs had been known to bite humans in the past.
