Mandy McGregor, 51, of Lovett Street, Cleethorpes, was walking two West Highland terriers and a Shih Tzu near Fuller Street bridge yesterday afternoon, when a "large bulldog type" dog grabbed Bonnie, one of the Westies.
The dog attacked the 10-year-old pet and "ragged her around like a toy", leaving the animal injured and in severe shock.
During the incident, the other Westie, called Scruffy, and Tia, the Shih Tzu, bolted off, but were later found.
Adding to Mandy's distress was that after the attack, the owners of the large dog – believed to be two men aged in their 30s – walked off, leaving her sobbing and covered in Bonnies' blood.
She said: "This huge dog came out of nowhere. It pounded up and went straight for Tia but she ran off, then Scruffy ran off and so the dog went for Bonnie, who was too old to get away.
"It got hold of her and ragged her about for what seemed like forever. He was running around with her like she was a toy. The two men came running up and it eventually dropped her. I had to stand between the huge dog and Bonnie to stop it happening again.
"It was petrifying. There was blood all over the place. As soon as the men got their dog on the lead they just walked off and left me."
Typical of owners of these types of dogs. They flee the scene.
Bonnie was taken to the vets where she was treated for facial, ear and leg injuries.
Meanwhile, Mandy's family searched the beach for the missing dogs. They found Scruffy but could not find Tia, an 18-month-old and started a search which fortunately had a happy ending when she was found.
Mandy was looking after Tia and Bonnie for friends who are currently on their honeymoon and not back until tomorrow.
She continued: "Bonnie is still in shock. All her ear hole has been cut and we are not sure about the damge to her legs because she hasn't walked yet. She is old too so we don't know how this might affect her.
"I was just so appalled that the men just walked off. It wasn't about the vet bills; they could have helped me but instead they just left me."
The incident has been reported to Humberside Police.
