Woman jailed, child and animals removed from home

OHIO -- A 28-year-old mom was taken to jail and her toddler was placed with a grandparent Tuesday night stemming from dual investigations at their residence regarding children services and animal control.

Dayton police were dispatched to Linden Avenue late in the afternoon on a child welfare investigation, News Center 7’s Layron Livingston reported.

The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center was called when police discovered animal feces throughout in the home as well as several dogs, cats and birds, according to ARC Director Mark Kumpf.

Several workers dressed in white hooded overalls were seen at the residence at about 6:30 p.m., removing items from the home. Animal cages could be seen on the front porch as well.

Several ARC workers also could be seen running about, trying to catch animals. An estimated 20 animals were removed from the residence, Kumpf said.

Elizabeth Robbins was detained at the Montgomery County Jail on charges of child endangerment and obstruction.

All of the animals have been released to the county animal shelter, Kumpf said, and the health of the animals will determine whether ARC will pursue charges.

The child is believed to be 2 years old.
