Jogger attacked by 4 pit bulls in El Paso's Lower Valley

TEXAS -- A jogger was hospitalized after being attacked by a group of pit bulls Wednesday afternoon in a Lower Valley neighborhood, officials said.

Animal control officers are investigating the attack after the 46-year-old man was bitten multiple times by four dogs in the 500 block of Eastland Street, said city Animal Services operations supervisor Hugo Navarro.

The man was jogging about 12:50 when "allegedly four dogs came out of a property and attacked him. They were described as four pit bulls," Navarro said.

The jogger, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital. His medical condition was not immediately available.

On Wednesday evening, animal control officers were trying to find the dogs' owner to see whether they have had rabies vaccines and to possibly take the dogs into custody, officials said.

"When we arrived at the scene of the attack, there were no dogs roaming the neighborhood," said Tammy Fonce-Olivas, spokeswoman for the city Environmental Services Department. "The dogs believed to be involved were on private property."
