Michigan: Elderly woman attacked by dog, which had attacked other people on two prior occasions, receives $150,000 settlement

MICHIGAN -- Our Michigan dog bite lawyers recently won a substantial Macomb County settlement for our seventy-six year old woman.  Our client was knocked down by a dog as she walked on a public street.  She was also bitten on the leg by the dog.

The dog was not on a leash at the time of the attack, which is in violation of the Michigan dog bite statute. Through our investigation, we learned that the same dog was involved in two previous dog bite attacks.  The dog owner was strictly liable under Michigan law for the attack.

The woman suffered serious injuries as a result of the dog attack, including  a fractured thoracic vertebrae which caused significant pain and discomfort.  She also struck her head on the cement after she fell and complained of symptoms from that injury.  She has not fully recovered from those injuries.

We filed a Macomb County dog attack lawsuit in Mount Clemens,Michigan.  Shortly before the scheduled jury trial, the case settled for $150,000.  This amount is considered a substantial settlement for this case.  The dog owner’s insurance company agreed to pay the settlement.
