NEW YORK -- St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies arrested a Parishville woman yesterday, following an investigation into the neglect of several horses on Buckton Road in the town of Stockholm.
Deputies say they were alerted by concerned citizens to the condition of the horses and the lack of adequate food, water and shelter.
A veterinarian examined the animals and found all six horses needed immediate medical attention. They were removed from the property and boarded out of the area. One horse later died. The other five horses were responding well to treatment.
Authorities say 50-year-old Rose Malone was charged with six counts of cruelty to animals by neglect, under the State Agriculture and Markets law.
She was released in her own recognizance, pending further court action.
