IOWA -- Storm Lake police shot a pit bull with a stun gun Wednesday. The dog's owner was cited.
Officers shot the animal while responding to a loose dog call on South Windsor Circle, Storm Lake police said in a statement.
The report came in about 5 p.m. The street is a few blocks west of Storm Lake High School.
Police said officers initially tried to capture the animal, which was acting aggressive. The animal was shot when it charged them, police said.
The dog was taken to Lake Animal Hospital and is expected to be released.
Owner Juan Carlos Delacruz, 26, of Storm Lake, was cited for keeping a vicious animal.
