Davenport detective wounds attacking dog

IOWA -- A Davenport police officer wounded a dog Monday afternoon while conducting a compliance check for sex offenders.

The incident occurred about 4:45 p.m. at 2109 Harrison Street.

Members of the Scott County Sex Offender Task Force went to the rear of the Harrison Street address to serve warrants on Thomas Arthur Brunton, 54, for two counts of failure to register as a sex offender.

During the process a Doberman  was released from the house. The dog aggressively approached a Davenport detective and then attacked. The detective made several attempts to stop the attack by kicking at the dog. The detective then discharged his weapon to stop the attack and grazed the animal.

The injury to the dog was minor, police said.
