Letter: Dog attack terrifying

AUSTRALIA -- On Tuesday, November 13, I was about to walk my Golden Retriever Angus on Kingsley Oval when two staffordshire bull dogs appeared out of nowhere and within seconds were biting at his neck, mouth and chest.

I was terrified and I tried to fend these dogs off by kicking, shouting and trying to restrain them by their collar, but their strength and temperament overcame me.

A Joondalup contractor who witnessed the attack tried to intervene by hitting the attacking dogs with a stick and another witness, a woman, ran on to the oval and tried desperately to get these animals off my dog.

Angus suffered puncture wounds that would have been more severe if it wasn't for his thick coat that acted as protection.

I had to attend my GP for a tetanus injection and was referred to Joondalup hospital as I was also bitten on my fingers.

My thanks to the two witnesses for their brave intervention. I do believe Angus would have been killed without their brave intervention.

And to Tony, the Joondalup ranger, who caught the two dogs and who has been very supportive.

I’m taking sick leave from work and paying a vet's bill all due to dangerous dogs with irresponsible owners.

Dangerous breeds of dogs should be banned from breeding; they are a danger to other dogs and humans.

Please let's see WA breed out all dangerous fighting dogs and make it a safe place for children, and responsible dogs and their owners.
