COLORADO -- A 9-year-old girl selling candy door-to-door for her school was bitten by a dog Tuesday.
It happened around 4 p.m. on Warren Drive in unincorporated Adams County.
The homeowner, Richard Fales, confirmed that his stepson's Labrador - Pit Bull mix did bite the girl, but Fales said he was not home at the time.
Rachel Archuleta, the girl's mom said her daughter's head and foot were bitten. She said the 9-year-old was taken to the hospital and released Tuesday night.
According to Fales, his wife, who was home during the incident said the dog became excited when the girl came to the door. The dog jumped up, hit the door handle and opened the door.
Fales said his wife told the girl not to run and tried to get the dog back in the house.
"He [the dog] got away from me," she told her husband.
"He likes to lick," Fales said. "Then if somebody runs that creates an issue."
Fales said there is a no soliciting sign at his front door. Archuleta said she did not see a sign.
According to the Fales' wife, Animal Control told her the dog must stay in the house for 30 days and can only go outside if escorted.
Animal Control was not available for comment Tuesday night.
