UNITED KINGDOM -- A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER has told of her distress after her pet dog Molly was mauled by a German Shepherd.
Pensioner Elizabeth Higgs was out walking the 11-year-old West Highland terrier when the other dog, which was not on a lead, attacked.
The 78-year-old said: ‘It was absolutely horrible. Molly had her sides ripped open.
‘She had to have stitches and a drain in her lungs. She’s all bandaged up around her middle.’
Mrs Higgs, who walks Molly three times a day, was on her way home to Stratton Close in Paulsgrove, Portsmouth, when the attack happened in nearby Cheltenham Road.
She added: ‘We’ve never seen that dog before.
‘It was at the bottom of our close.
‘This dog came bounding along it wasn’t on a lead. Molly just though it was coming to play with her.
‘It jumped on her and she growled. The dog just got its teeth into her, I couldn’t get it off.
‘There was a woman there. She just kept saying ‘sorry, sorry’.
‘It let go eventually and she took the dog and went.’
Mrs Higgs took Molly to Pet Doctors vets in Havant Road, Drayton, Portsmouth where the dog received stitches and was bandaged up.
She said: ‘We went straight to the vets. They were excellent. They worked on her until 9.30pm.’
The police were called and now Mrs Higgs is appealing for anyone with information about the attack, which happened at about 5.15pm on Monday, to contact them.
Anyone with information should call Hampshire police on 101.
