12/03/12: Deville man faces cruelty, drug charges

LOUISIANA -- A call about shots fired in the Deville area led to Rapides Parish Sheriff's deputies finding three dogs that had been shot, two fatally, and man now facing drug and animal cruelty charges, according to a release.


The call came in on Thursday. When deputies arrived at 31 C.M. Paul Road, they found that a suspect - Elbert L. Jolly, 24, of that same address - had shot his dogs. The surviving dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment, according to the release.

Detectives were called to assist, and a search found a meth lab in a shed behind the residence. Officials found meth made in a cook the night before, and also found lithium batteries and Drano, according to the release.

Jolly was arrested and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center, where he is being held on a $7,500 bond. He was charged with three counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and the creation/operation of a clandestine lab.
