12/04/12: Woman Faces Animal Cruelty Charges

NORTH CAROLINA -- A West End woman is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities say she left two dogs tied to a tree, without food and water and in "poor condition," Moore County Sheriff Lane Carter said.

Today Moore County Sheriff's investigators arrested Chante Nicole Jackson, 25, of 660 N.C. 73, is charged with two counts of felony cruelty to animals.

Chante Nicole Jackson
Jackson received a $3,000 secured bond and she was placed in the Moore County jail. Her first court date is set for Dec. 19 in Moore County district court.

The arrest stems from an investigation into a complaint of animal cruelty made to the Sheriff's Office by Moore County Animal Control. Animal Control officers advised that their office was notified of two mixed breed dogs that were tied to trees with no mobility, no food or water and no shelter.

\Sheriff's investigators located the dogs in "poor condition," Carter said. The dogs were surrendered to the Moore Humane Society for care and medical treatment. Sheriff's investigators and Animal Control officers investigated and determined Jackson to be the responsible party.
