12/10/12: Bench warrant issued for man who dumped emaciated dog at airport

OHIO -- A bench warrant was issued last week for Mario Alberto Degollado, 30, of Hamilton, Ohio.

In October, Degollado was charged with cruelty to a companion animal and abandonment. After questioning, he confessed to not feeding his dog, Smokey, then leaving the dog to fend for himself. Smokey was discovered at the Butler County Regional Airport.

Smokey is a two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix. He weighed only 35 pounds when he first arrived at Animal Friends Humane Society.

Adore-A-Bull Rescue helped Smokey find his forever home. Smokey can now leave his sad, starving past behind; according to Adore-A-Bull, he has been adopted.

Now recovered

The bench warrant was issued on December 6, 2012 after Degollado failed to appear in Hamilton Municipal court. As of the date of this article, Degollado still has not turned himself in.
