DELAWARE -- A Milltown man who had been charged with a felony animal cruelty charge has been acquitted on misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.
Matthew Green, 26, of Dunlinden Acres, was accused of shooting a cat named Pumpkin in the spine with a BB gun on Oct. 17, 2011. The animal was later euthanized.
Initially charged with a felony, prosecutors later dismissed that charge in favor of a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge, and the case was taken to trial in July. After a day of testimony, the jury acquitted Green.
Deputy Attorney General Jamie McCloskey said prosecutors believed in the case and taking it to trial but said they respect the decision of the jury.
Green, in an email, said the result is a vindication.
