FLORIDA -- The woman looked out her window and saw Trinity, her neighbor's grey pit bill, hanging from a tree, yelping and wiggling in agony.
Palm Beach County deputies say Trinity's owner, 37-year-old Reginald Johnson, tried to punish the dog by hanging her outside his West Palm Beach home. But Trinity survived, struggling so hard she got loose from her collar and fell to the ground.
Johnson's neighbor, whom deputies have not identified, heard the dog "screaming" just before 8 a.m. Thursday in the 4700 block of Hairland Drive, according to a Sheriff's Office report.
"[She] saw Reginald holding the end of the leash," the report says.
Johnson, who now stands charged with animal cruelty, had wrapped the leash around Trinity's neck and draped the leash over the limb of a tree. He then hoisted Trinity 3 feet off the ground. Deputies say Trinity remained hanging for at least three minutes.
Animal Care & Control took Trinity and deputies booked Johnson in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $3,000 bond.
