6-year-old Las Vegas boy survives vicious pit bull attack

NEVADA -- A young boy is recovering after a dog attacked him while at a friend's house. Police said it was so bad, they thought the boy would lose his leg.

Unlike most boys who would hurt their leg climbing trees or playing sports, six-year-old Taeven hurt his last Friday when a pit bull attacked.

His mother, Missy, recalls the terrifying ordeal that could have ended her son's life.

"When I got over there, the dog had him by the leg. There was a lot of commotion going on," Missy recalls.

The dog's owner is a neighbor and a friend of the family.

Taeven's mom did what she could to save her son's life, punching and kicking the dog to get it off of her son as he cried for help.

Taeven was taken to University Medical Center where he spent five days in serious condition. Now, he's back home continuing to recover.

"He's healing really well," said Missy.

Taeven uses a walker to get around as his leg heals.

"They put a metal rod in his leg for the bones to grow back together. They say in about eight weeks he should be healed," Missy said.

As for the dog, Animal Control now has custody. Police say the dog is scheduled to be put down.
