Two 'vicious' bulldogs maul Post Office worker who was left 'bleeding all over her face, arms and legs'

FLORIDA -- A letter carrier was mauled by a pair of 'vicious' American bulldogs while trying to deliver the mail, it was revealed today.

Emogene Powell was on her route Tuesday in Miami Gardens when the two dogs attacked her and started biting her face and arm, horrified witnesses said.

'The lady was bleeding all over her face,' one neighbor said. Another heard her panicked cries for help.

'She was saying, 'Oh, Lord please help me! Help me! Lord, please help me!' She was screaming,' said the man. 'Both of her arms, her leg, and she was bloody, bloody all over.'

Powell had just opened the gate to the home located on the 1400 block of 191st Street, when police said the dogs at the home next door jumped the gate and attacked her, according to WSVN.com.

A good Samaritan happened to come upon the gruesome attack and used a stick to fight of the dogs, the station said.

She was rushed to the hospital, where she remained in stable condition today.

Powell is expected to remain in the hospital for a few more days, a Post Office spokeswoman said.

The bulldogs' owners had the proper paperwork and police were likely only going to be able to issue a fine.

'She has my deepest sympathy, I mean, I've never gotten bit by a dog, I don't feel her pain, but she has by deepest sympathy,' the owner's girlfriend said.

One neighbor though said he wasn't surprised the dogs attacked.

'Those dogs are bad, they're vicious. They bark all night long,' he said.
