NEW JERSEY -- Charges are pending against the owner of a dog that leaped over a backyard fence and bit a child, requiring the victim to receive nearly 100 stitches.
According to Woodbury Police Captain Timothy Sheehan, the dog, a Rottweiler, had been in the backyard of its owner’s Childs Street home on Tuesday when the canine jumped over the locked fence and bit a 12-year-old boy on the elbow.
“It was a pretty significant injury,” said Sheehan. “The victim underwent minor surgery and needed close to a hundred stitches.”
According to the police captain, animal control has been notified and the owner of the dog is cooperating with officials.
The pending charge is for “allowing the dog to run loose,” said Sheehan.
“The owner said the dog has received all of its shots; she’s been cooperative,” he added. “She hasn’t been charged yet, though.”
