Rhode Island: Miguel Medina, 22, and Juan Olivio, 35, arrested after drugs, 14 pit bulls seized from Woonsocket apartment

RHODE ISLAND -- They went in looking for drugs, but police searching an apartment in Woonsocket came out with fourteen pit bulls including seven puppies.

The dogs were seized from 95 Rathbun St. Apartment 2L.

Only two of the dogs were pro pertly licensed, so police took them all, and turned them over to animal control.

They say the two tenants have been caught with pit bulls before, and they think they are breeding and selling the pups.

"They were just money makers for these people," said Lincoln Animal Control Officer Lou Ann Noreau. "Shelters are full of pit bulls. Every shelter you look at, and people have to euthanize them because we are so over crowded."

The dogs are healthy, and when the puppies are ready they will be put up for adoption. They are being held at the Lincoln Animal Control, the RISPCA, and Woonsocket Animal control.

Police also found marijuana and other drugs in the home.

Miguel Medina, 22, and Juan Olivio, 35 were arrested on drug charges. Both tenants also face $1600 in animal violation charges.
