Animal Cruelty Investigation

NORTH CAROLINA -- A Buncombe County pet owner is accused of starving three dogs after giving two of them to an animal shelter.

Amanda Rodriguez

Amanda Rodriguez is charged with two felony counts and one misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals. Deputies say she tortured two of them.

The director of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue says she’s never seen two dogs in such bad shape from malnutrition. Shelter workers took pictures that show the dogs’ bony frames. They say the two 6-month-old pups were barely able to stand up.

Rodriguez signed papers transferring the animals to the shelter, shelter officials called animal control officers and they arrested her. A third dog is in the county shelter.

Rodriguez tells News 13 she didn’t torture the dogs, and didn’t know why the dogs didn’t put on weight after she fed them. Her next court appearance is April 2nd.
