Dog sentenced to death attacks again

MASSACHUSETTS -- A dog already facing a death sentence for biting a child may have just blown any shot he had at a reprieve, after Mansfield police said he sent a teenaged girl to the hospital with another bite yesterday.

The 16-year-old girl was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island after the attack, according to the Mansfield Police Department.

Last Wednesday, the Board of Selectman voted 3-2 in favor of euthanizing Milo.

[I bet those 2 board members who voted "no" are feeling pretty stupid now...]

Mansfield Selectmen Doug Annino and George Dentino

Selectmen Doug Annino and George Dentino voted against the dangerousness ruling and to spare Milo’s life.

Dentino cited the lack of first-hand proof that the attack was unprovoked and said there could have been an interchange between Christian and Milo.

He said he preferred to have Milo sent to a trainer out of town.

“We live in a society of second chances. I think this dog deserves a second chance,” he said.

On January 3, the pointer basset hound mix attacked a 6-year-old boy.The boy required surgery and 400 stitches as a result of the attack.

The family planed to appeal the vote in district court – they have until March 9 to do so.

Efforts to reach his owners for comment were unsuccessful today. It is unclear where the girl was bit, and how she had access to the dog.

Mansfield Police said the dog is now in the custody of a animal control officer.

There have been no immediate reports on the condition of the latest victim.
