Police Officer Hospitalized After Dog Attack

SOUTH CAROLINA -- Bishopville police say one of their officers had to be hospitalized after he was attacked by a dog.

The attack took place just after 11 p.m. Tuesday on Academy Road and Highway 15 North.

According to police, Officer Josh Kelly was on foot patrol when the dog jumped on him.

Investigators aren't sure what type of dog the animal was, but say it may have been a pit bull mix, based on Kelly's description.

Kelly was first admitted to Carolina Pines hospital for treatment but was later flown to Palmetto Richland Hospital. Kelly is in stable condition and could be released Thursday.

Officers say the dog hasn't been found, and investigators believe it may belong to someone.

Kelly has been with the department for two years.
