DCSO removes 24 cats from Redmond trailer

OREGON -- Deschutes County sheriff's deputies called out on a case of animal hoarding at a trailer just south of Redmond removed 24 cats, three rats and a dog from the home on Wednesday, deputies said.

Deputies said they got a tip Tuesday about an apparent hoarding case at Desert Terrace Mobile Estates at 5063 S. Hwy. 97.

They moved in Wednesday, taking the animals to Redmond's shelter, the BrightSide Animal Center. Due to the number of animals, some may be taken to Humane Society of Central Oregon in Bend.

A neighbor who asked not to be named told NewsChannel 21 by phone the conditions in the home were horrible.

"They have respiratory problems, goofy eyes, stuffy noses," she said. "You can see them when you are walking past the trailer in the window, gasping for air in the window -- just laying there. There are flies just covering every single window."

Deputies said the woman has not been charged and the case is being forwarded to the district attorney's office.
